When employers need a dedicated and compassionate orthopedic specialist to care for their injured workers, Dr. Anand P. Panchal is the name they trust. Known for his exceptional patient care, expertise in workers’ compensation, and outstanding outcomes, Dr. Panchal has become a go-to doctor for adjusters, case managers, and employers. His dedication to restoring injured workers to their pre-injury health and helping them return to work has set him apart as a leader in his field.
Dr. Panchal’s commitment to excellence has earned him widespread recognition, including being named to the Best Doctors in Workers’ Compensation for 2024. This acknowledgment underscores his skill, his proven outcomes, and his relentless dedication to ensuring the best possible care for his patients.
Bloom Magazine had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Panchal to learn more about his journey, his philosophy, and the qualities that make him a standout in the workers’ compensation field.
Bloom Magazine: Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
Dr. Panchal: I’m a very patriotic person. Every day, I feel fortunate to wake up in this beautiful country. It’s a privilege I never take for granted.
Bloom Magazine: What inspires you to do your best every day?
Dr. Panchal: As surgeons, we are entrusted with something deeply personal—the health and well-being of our patients. They come to us for answers they can’t find themselves, and that’s a responsibility I take very seriously. I treat every patient with the respect and care they deserve, making sure I give them my full attention and do everything I can to help them recover.
Bloom Magazine: You’ve had extensive training. Can you tell us about your background?
Dr. Panchal: I’m a board-certified, dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients of all ages, from young athletes to adults with complex injuries.
My training started with a rigorous orthopedic surgery residency in Ohio. After that, I completed two fellowships—one at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, where I worked with athletes from high school to professional levels, including the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Nationals. My second fellowship was in upper extremity surgery at Triangle Orthopaedic Associates in North Carolina, where I learned advanced procedures for the shoulder, elbow, and wrist.
Bloom Magazine: What are your main areas of expertise?
Dr. Panchal: My focus includes shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty, complex shoulder and elbow trauma and reconstruction, ACL reconstruction, meniscal surgery, elbow arthroplasty and ligament reconstruction, and all sports-related injuries of the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
Bloom Magazine: How do you balance the demands of your career with your personal life?
Dr. Panchal: My wife and I make it a priority to spend time together, especially outdoors. We love biking, hiking, playing tennis, and golfing. Exploring new restaurants is another way we connect and unwind. Having that balance helps me recharge and stay focused on providing the best care for my patients.
Bloom Magazine: What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Dr. Panchal: Balancing the physical and emotional needs of patients. Sometimes the physical injury doesn’t align with what they’re feeling emotionally, and addressing both can be challenging. But it’s also one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Bloom Magazine: What’s your philosophy when treating injured workers?
Dr. Panchal: My goal is simple: to get them back to their pre-injury level of function and, ideally, back to work. I explore every treatment option, whether surgical or non-surgical, to achieve that. It’s about restoring their quality of life and helping them move forward.
Bloom Magazine: If you could change one thing about the workers’ compensation industry, what would it be?
Dr. Panchal: Reducing delays in treatment. Getting injured workers to the right doctor faster and starting their care sooner would make a world of difference for everyone involved.
Bloom Magazine: What do you consider your biggest professional accomplishment?
Dr. Panchal: Being included on the Best Doctors in Workers’ Compensation for 2024 is a huge honor. It’s a reflection of the hard work my team and I put into ensuring our patients get the best possible outcomes. Beyond that, building a successful practice where I can focus on the types of surgeries I’m most passionate about has been incredibly fulfilling.
Bloom Magazine: What makes your practice unique?
Dr. Panchal: We’ve created a dedicated Workers’ Compensation department that ensures injured workers get the care they need without unnecessary delays. Our team is focused on clear and timely communication with all parties involved—employers, adjusters, case managers, and the patients themselves. We pride ourselves on accommodating injuries quickly and providing the best care possible.
Dr. Panchal: Communication and outcomes are everything. The better we communicate and the faster we can deliver results, the quicker we can help injured workers get back to their jobs and lives. I’m always available to speak with anyone involved in a case to make sure we’re aligned and working toward the same goal.
Bloom Magazine: What’s the best way for employers, adjusters, and case managers to reach you?
