Center of Excellence (COE) Designation

Center of Excellence (COE) Designation

Information for Ancillary & Service Providers

A national professional designation recognizing ancillary and service providers committed to supporting the highest level of care coordination and service delivery for injured workers.

The OM Center of Excellence (COE) Designation for Ancillary & Service Providers was created to recognize workers’ compensation service organizations that uphold high operational and administrative standards and follow established best practices that support timely, efficient, and well-coordinated care for injured workers.

This designation applies to ancillary and service providers that support medical care delivery, including but not limited to:

  • Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

  • Medical products and supplies

  • Transportation services

  • Translation and interpretation services

  • Surgery centers

  • Physical therapy

  • Home health

  • Rehabilitation services

  • MRI and diagnostic imaging

  • Other workers’ compensation ancillary service organizations

The designation recognizes ancillary and service providers that have established best practices in place to support care delivery, including accurate and timely documentation, reliable scheduling and turnaround times, effective case coordination, and clear communication throughout the injured worker’s course of care.

For more than two decades, OM has worked closely with employers, insurance carriers, nurse case managers, adjusters, and other professionals involved in the care of injured workers. Through this work and direct feedback from these groups, it became clear that there was a need for a professional designation to distinguish ancillary and service providers that consistently follow established best practices in supporting medical care for injured workers. In response, OM partnered with clinical and industry experts to develop the COE Designation for Ancillary & Service Providers.

The COE Designation is open to ancillary and service providers that meet established criteria. OM serves solely as the program developer and administrator and does not determine which organizations receive the designation. All designation decisions are made independently by the COE Oversight Committee. The COE Designation operates independently from OM marketing programs, services, and business affiliations.

  • The OM Center of Excellence (COE) for Ancillary & Service Providers was established to recognize ancillary and service organizations that follow best practices supporting timely, efficient, and well-coordinated care for injured workers. The designation focuses on administrative and operational practices, including clear communication, accurate and timely documentation, reliable service delivery, and effective coordination with all parties involved in the injured worker’s care.

  • To receive the OM Center of Excellence (COE) Designation, an ancillary or service provider must meet established criteria designed to support high-quality service delivery for injured workers.

These criteria outline specific standards organizations are required to follow, including implementing protocols that support timely scheduling and turnaround, accurate documentation, and staff training in workers’ compensation best practices. Organizations may already have these elements in place or may implement them as part of the COE application and review process.
