OM Establishes the Nation’s Sole Formal Designation for Medical Practices and Service Providers Committed to Supporting High-Quality, Well-Coordinated Care for Injured Workers

The OM Desk

OM has officially launched the OM Center of Excellence (COE) Designation, the nation’s only formal professional designation created specifically for medical practices and service providers that support injured workers.

The COE Designation was developed in response to ongoing feedback from employers, insurance carriers, nurse case managers, adjusters, and other workers’ compensation professionals who rely on consistent, dependable partners to help cases move forward efficiently. While many organizations do excellent work, there has historically been no formal way to distinguish those that consistently follow established best practices in supporting injured worker care.

The designation focuses on administrative, operational, and care coordination standards that support timely access to care, accurate and timely documentation, effective case coordination, and clear communication with all parties involved in a claim.

The COE Designation does not evaluate, direct, or influence medical decision-making. All clinical decisions remain solely with the treating physician. The designation recognizes organizations that have strong systems, workflows, and protocols in place to support care delivery and case progression.

Medical practices and service providers must apply, meet established eligibility criteria, and complete a structured evaluation process conducted by an independent Oversight Committee composed of physicians, employers, adjusters, nurse case managers, and industry professionals. OM serves as the program developer and administrator but does not determine which organizations receive designation.

Applications for the OM Center of Excellence (COE) Designation are currently open.

Organizations that achieve designation will be formally recognized for their commitment to best practices, operational excellence, and consistent support of injured worker care.

For more than two decades, OM has worked closely with employers, carriers, case management companies, medical practices, and service providers nationwide. The COE Designation reflects OM’s leadership in establishing structured, objective standards that support constant high-quality, well-coordinated care for injured workers.
